Music & Gifts

Level_II_2010.jpgIrish dance music is a science in itself. There are different time signatures for each style of dance and different tempos. Most CD's designed for Irish dancers will simplify the above in its title, by simply listing what dance and speed the music is intended for.

If you are interested in purchasing Irish music for practice, the best advice is to choose music/CD designed specifically for the dancer and that will be clearly stated. A good choice is any of Olive Hurley's Sets and Solos.

Where do I buy music?
The music I use with Celtic Spirit Dancers has all been purchased- I do not download music. All music was bought through the internet at a variety of sites. My preferred link is:

Amazon.com: This site is american but it has a better selection than the .ca site. I like that the site allows for a preview or sample of the tracks. When I find a CD I like I'll always check amazon.ca first and if available I'll purchase there (for CDN pricing & shipping)

There are literally hundreds of more sites where Irish dance music can be purchased.

If you have Irish music at home but don't know if what you are listening to is a reel or a slip jig, Irish Tune is a great resource. Plug in the title or artist and it will give you all the necessary information and more.

The other option is to check our
Dancers Only page where I will post our session's preferred practice music.
