Dancing Queen is an original musical, written by Celtic Spirit Dancers’ director Sara Sheehan. The story is set over a 3 month period from May- August and, using the tunes of ABBA, reveals the transformation of the Finn family.

Mother, a divorced waitress, always dreamed of going to school and becoming a nurse. However, circumstances in her life left her feeling that she had to give up everything for her children. Feeling a great deal of resentment about her own choices, she persists that her own children will not make the same mistakes. Her resentment and anger results in her oldest daughter, Nora, doing the complete opposite of her mother’s wishes; quitting school and traveling the world working at various pubs & restaurants. The mother and daughter relationship is tense and the two fight constantly, saying whatever they can to get a rise from each other. Nora returns home for a visit after living and working in Ireland for several months. She brings her own bitterness and resentment, which results in a conflict with mother that is the breaking point for Brighid.

Brighid, the youngest in the Finn family, is a studious 17 year old whose submissive and agreeable personality leaves her struggling to find her ‘own’ place in the family. Never able to speak her own mind, she easily gets pushed over by the strong personalities of her mother and Nora. With Nora away, mother has been able to control Brighid and naively believes that she is setting her on a path that will fix her own mistakes and make Brighid happy. Nora has a completely different vision for Brighid. With Nora’s visit home, the opposing visions for Brighid’s future puts Brighid directly in the middle. Feeling like a pawn, Brighid decides that she has no choice but to leave both women in an attempt to make them realize what they are doing to the family and each other. What the women discover is the confidence to determine their own paths and the empathy to support each other.

Featuring a live band, backstage singers and our own 'Solid Gold' dancers, the story is told through 16 of ABBA's most popular tunes and several Irish pieces. Along with Celtic Spirit dancers, this production will total more than 70 performers and backstage crew. You won't be disappointed! It is wildly funny yet heart warming.
